What it is

The decision here is not whether to buy the glass but how many to buy in one go. One, 2, 4, 8, 16 or 20 — the same 3-inch tumbler, the same bamboo lid, the same glass straw standing in it, at six counts whose prices do not scale evenly. The 8.5 inches in the specification is the whole assembly upright with the straw in place; the glass on its own is 3 inches across and 5.8 tall. Behind the family sit 19,066 ratings, roughly a fifth of every rating counted in this catalogue.

Read the ladder and the pattern is plain. $8.99 buys one glass and $52.99 buys 20, which is $2.65 each; in between, the price per glass falls at every single step — $7.00 at two, $4.25 at four, $3.25 at eight, $2.75 at sixteen. The only genuinely poor value in the family is the option most people click first. A single glass here costs more than three times what the same glass costs inside the set of 20. Against that, one caution that has nothing to do with money: the bamboo is the part with a service life. Wood on a lid is a hand-wash part on every product in this range that has one, and a lid rinsed rather than dried is the piece that looks tired first while the glass beside it still looks new.

In use

Fits: iced coffee and tea at a desk, where a lid keeps dust out of a drink between refills, and a table that needs eight matching glasses at once. Does not fit: a household that wants one glass. At $8.99 the single is the most expensive glass in this family by a factor of three, and it only really makes sense as a replacement for one that broke.

What 19,066 ratings can and cannot tell you

This is the largest sample in the catalogue by a wide margin, so it is worth being precise about what a number that size settles. On shipped glassware the dominant risk is breakage in transit, and 19,066 ratings holding at 4.6 is a statement about packing more than about design. What the figure cannot reach is the second year: bamboo ages, and the people who left a rating did so within weeks of the box arriving. Read 4.6 as "it arrives whole and it looks right", not as a durability test.

The average is the retailer’s own figure across every option in this family, not a score of ours, and no review is quoted or paraphrased anywhere on this site.

Questions about this one

Do the lid and straw come with every glass?

One of each per glass, at every count. The set of 20 is 20 glasses, 20 lids and 20 straws — a lot of small wooden parts to store, which is worth picturing before ordering the largest box.

Does the lid seal?

No. It rests on the rim and keeps dust and insects out of a drink standing on a desk. Laid on its side in a bag the glass will empty, so treat the lid as a cover rather than a closure.

Which count should I actually buy?

The 20 at $2.65 a glass and the 16 at $2.75 are a dime apart, so the choice between those two is shelf space rather than money. Below eight the price per glass starts climbing steeply.
